Susan Thomas established this foundation in honor of her late husband, Senator Craig Thomas who served in the US Senate for years 12 years from 1995 to 2007. She explained that she wanted to provide inspiration, opportunity and leadership, using every resource available to at-risk Wyoming students—those who needed it the most. Senator Thomas was instrumental in supporting the Wyoming Youth ChalleNGe Program (now the Wyoming Cowboy ChalleNGe Academy) when it opened in 2006 and Susan secured donations from friends in Washington, D.C., Chicago and New York, providing the initial funds used to create the Wyoming National Guard Youth Foundation. She continued to award scholarships and mentoring to graduates of the Wyoming Cowboy ChalleNGe Academy as well as donations to our Foundation, which has benefited greatly from her support. Since the Thomas Foundation was set-up with a 10 year plan, it ended in June, 2018 and one of the last donations Susan made, to distribute remaining funds, was to WYNGY Foundation. She continues to support our efforts today for which we are grateful.
